My daughter will not leave on her boots and bar

Hi Mia and everyone,

I was wondering has anyone got any tips on getting the FULL night in the boots and bar.

My daughter Lucy Mae is two yeaes and three months old.  She will not leave the boots and bar on her at night anymore.  I dont know what else I can do, its very frustrating for her and us.

Since the summer she will get so frustrated trying to pull her affected (left) foot free from the brace and she always is succesful even though I have it extremely tight I dont know how she dose it without damaging her foot or skin.

We went back to temple street in the summer, they fitted the dobbs bar to her ponsitti boots to give her more movement.  This worked up until Christmas then she was able to get out of that.  I would be up so many times during the night putting it back on her and she would still be out of it in the morning.

We were up in temple street last friday the doctor is very pleased with her foot but he insists that she continues to wear the boots and bar at night.  The girls in the plaster room fitted her for the markell boots,  we tried them being very hopefull.  However, she would not tolerate them at all even worse than ponsetti boots.  I then put her back in the ponsitti boots last night and tonight.  She is still getting out of them even though I have them so tight, even when she is asleep I put them on her and she still gets out of them, although she dose not open the straps.

I know she is getting out of them because she simply knows she can,  to clever.

I would dread if she had a relapse

Any tips ??? anyone,

Regards,

Rena and Lucy Mae

Hi Rena!

Mostly people tend to have problems if the child unties the boots and then an adult tube sock or socker sock with ducktape at the top (cut out heel of sock for the boot) is a good solution. However, and I don't want to worry you, but if she gets out by pulling out of boot it does ring alarm bells that her foot/feet might not be corrected fully or regressing. You said in your post that the Dr is happy with her feet so I presume he is right! He is indeed right in that she has to continue with the boots as it is recommended they wear them until 4-5 years old. However, it might be an idea to seek a second opinion just to be sure her feet are not regressing. How do you feel about them, are you happy with them? Sometimes a mothers instinct tells a lot. Hope I am not sounding disheartening... It can be so frustrating and worrying. Hopefully you just have a little Houdini on your hands - and you will be laughing about all this one day! Keep up the good work and do let us know if you decide on a second opinion or not. Best of luck!

Mia
