The plaster team in temple st are lovely and couldnt be more helpful. They put kyle in temporary casts which we could remove ourselves everyday until we met with doctor connolly which was on mon 9 jan last. We would have being ready for boots n bars but with christmas and bank holidays we had to wait to see the doctor.

So off we went into temple st yesterday. We met with doctor Connolly for around 3 mins. bascially he just looked at kyles feet and sais he was happy with them and they were ready for next stage boots &bar. We had lots of questions but never got the chance to ask. Anyway i wasnt prepared for what was coming. Kyle was very distressed and didnt like these boots atall. Yesterday was worse day so far. i was very teary because kyle was so upset cause hes usually such a placid baby. before we even got home 1 of the boots was off. And since then it has come off many times. Last night kyle didnt sleep much he kept waking up crying.

Today wasnt great day either we had same problem with the boot coming off and everytime this happens he gets very upset putting it back on.

I have a few questions id love help with please if anyone can help.

firstly i take it the babies get used to the boots? Do they hurt the babies or is it just uncomfotable for them?

Should i return to temple st if they keep coming off? or will i just keep putting them back on?

Where can i buy the sleepsuits with no feet u no the shorter 1s? I have bought clothes with the bottom openings so its really night time wear im worried bout. I cut his sleepsuit lastnight and that worked fine.

Thanks for letting me share my story. Its a fantastic website and so useful. im only raging i wasnt on sooner.

no boot and bar yet , she had her op on dec15th and has had 3 casts since then , 12 casts in total. she was supposed to get boots and bar yesterday but her foot was slightly turned down so they said 1 more cast and she should be ok. Dr connolly saw her and said she might need another little operation so fingers crossed he is happy with her next week . and we can get started on boots and bar..

I never imagined i would become so obsessed with feet ha ha ...

I pass a newborn and I'm desperate to get a glimpse of their piggys lol

best of luck to you and kyle

Hi again Aisling!

No, the boots do not usually hurt the baby at all. They are just very unused to not having a warm and tight plaster cast so they don;t tend to like the feeling, rather than actual pain. It will settle down, it takes a day or two...

Keep putting them back on. It will take a week or so for the heel to settle into the boots and they can drive you a bit mad until then as they tend to slip off. Check out the boots and bar tips page for hints.

You can check out Clever Clothing Club for clothing that fit with boots and bars. Otherwise search for romper suits on the web as they are the ones without feet.

Best of luck,

Mia x
