Jess Cook A Step Backwards?

We had our first check up on Monday for James since he nstarted on the boots and bars. Unfortunatley it wasnt great news one of his feet has started to turn back in again so we are back in the casts. I was gutted as we have been doiung lots of exercises and  going swimming toi build up the muscle tone. I am feeling quite deflated now and James is frustrated as he had just figured out how to turn over with the boots and bar and now is very restricted with the casts. He will also be in them…

Rena Owens My daughter will not leave on her boots and bar

Hi Mia,

Thank you for your post.  Spoke to staff in plaster room today, we are going up to Temple Street Monday.

They are going to make and fit her for splints.  I was wondering has anyone else had this problem? or anyone else

child wearing splints?  If so do they have the same sucess rate as the boots and bar?

They think Lucy Mae foot very flexable?,thats why she is able to get her foot out of the boot.  Well I know she has very good movement in her foot from…

Rena Owens My daughter will not leave on her boots and bar

Hi Mia and everyone,

I was wondering has anyone got any tips on getting the FULL night in the boots and bar.

My daughter Lucy Mae is two yeaes and three months old.  She will not leave the boots and bar on her at night anymore.  I dont know what else I can do, its very frustrating for her and us.

Since the summer she will get so frustrated trying to pull her affected (left) foot free from the brace and she always is succesful even though I have it extremely tight I dont…

Jess Cook Clothing for the boots and bar stage

Hi thought I would start a post for people whose little ones are at the boots and bar stage. Trying to locate footless clothes with poppers in the crotch can be limiting, especially if you dont want to spend a fortune.

To date I have bought clothes in Dunnes Stores, Pumpkin Patch and also boys tights off ebay which are great - but your little one needs to be about 5 months for the leg length.

I have bought a few bits from next but these were quite pricey as were…

We would have being ready for boots n bars but with christmas and bank holidays we had to wait to see the doctor.

So off we went into temple st yesterday. We met with doctor Connolly for around 3 mins. bascially he just looked at kyles feet and sais he was happy with them and they…

Elaine Ash Aoibheann Story Wk 10

Well its been 4 weeks now since Aoibheanns cast where removed & she started wearing the boots & bar and thankfully we have had no problems at all.

The 1st & 2nd night where quite hard as you could here her frustration in her cries. Aoibheann was a baby who liked sleeping on her side & now here she was having to sleep on her back and her feet where now restricted. On night 3 we moved her from her moses basket into her big cot & as you can see she looks so small but…

Audrey Twyford Alex's Story Part 8

We are now a week on from Alex's operation... Yes, you heard right, it went ahead.  The procedure used to get her in the door was a little different and probably a little out of order but it worked in the end without cancellation.

We had been sent a confirmation letter for the 30th November but it was for day surgery in the day ward so I phoned admissions to query this as it was not a day case and they told me that she was booked in this way to get her in the door, she would…

Mia Barry Louis’ story 28 “Dr Check-up at 2 years old”

Hi everyone!

Time flies.... It felt like yesterday we were sitting in the waiting room at Temple St, Dublin, and it was about 6 months ago already! So on Friday we were back for our regular foot check-up. Like I just mentioned, it had been about 6 months since our last visit so there we were in this very familiar place waiting and waiting in a very familiar way. We were delighted to meet Lorraine and Daniel (members of TT) in the waiting room. It was great to see the two boys…

Laura Thijs & his Talipes

Hi all,

We discovered that our baby had unilateral talipes (left foot) at our twenty week scan and while we were reassured that he would only require physio and gentle exercises to correct it, I just felt that it was worse than that and spent the rest of my pregnancy researching talipes and hoping it would only be a mild form. This feeling however turned out to be correct when our gorgeous little boy Thijs was born in November. We were visited by the orthopaedic surgeon from Crumlin…

Elaine Ash Aoibheanns Story Wk 7

Our last day of casts wow can't believe that we are moving onto the next stage already, as this will be the main stage & what we have to get used to for the next few years. We went along to OLH & the nurses & staff are just so nice. Got the cast taken of nice & quick, which she really didn't like as her feet where extra sensative. The scar from the tenotomy is hardly there its crazy.

Then the next hard part came which was putting on the boots for the 1st time wow the…

He woke 5 times last night having kicked them off I am praying tonight will be easier as I am exhausted, I have the in laws staying so cooking for a full house on top of it all is exhausting.

Having problems fitting him into the moses basket and also the swing chair. I dont know what to do about the bed as we cant fit the cot in…

Carey Lord New Zealand Talipes Part 1

It is strange to think that this time a week ago I hadn't even heard of Talipes, now, after hours of reading and research, my husband and I think we're virtually experts on the subject, although we won't know what it's really all about until we meet our baby some time around March 19, 2012.

We innocently attended our 20 week anomaly scan 3 days ago to be told…
