He's Here and the Treatment Has Begun

Our lovely little boy finally arrived on March 30 after being 2 weeks overdue.  Harley James Lord was born at 5:46pm weighting 8lb 9oz. That was a little over 4 weeks ago now and he has just gone into his first casts which have made him very unsettled.  He hates them.  He cries, I cry and so it continues.  Upon his assessment yesterday at the hospital, we were told Harley's talipes is severe, scoring 5's. He is growing fast and gaining excellent weight which makes me feel great about…See More

First Casts = unsettled little boy

Hello, My baby went into his first casts yesterday and he naturally gets very upset when he tries to bend his knees up into foetal position which he has done for the last 4 weeks. Just wondering how long it took your little ones to get used to their casts? It makes me cry when he cries at this.  The casts do seem a bit cruel.. (I know it has to be done and it's not forever and it doesn't hurt baby etc etc...)How long from your experience did the adjustment period take? Carey xxSee More

"Thanks Elaine,   That makes sense.  Some of them have zips and I think these might be too restrictive, so I'll just use jersey stretch swaddles I think, easier to adjust.   Carey x"

Swaddling with Casts

Hi,Our baby who we know has bilateral talipes is due to meet us and the world in less than four weeks now and I've just thought about something...This may seem a silly question, but logistically, how do you swaddle a baby with leg casts?  Do you only swaddle baby's arms, or can you comfortably swaddle legs as well?I'd love to her what you did in those early months re. swaddling, as there are many types of lovely swaddle wraps available and I need to purchase some very soon!Cheers, Carey Lord.See More

New Zealand Talipes Part 1

It is strange to think that this time a week ago I hadn't even heard of Talipes, now, after hours of reading and research, my husband and I think we're virtually experts on the subject, although we won't know what it's really all about until we meet our baby some time around March 19, 2012. We innocently attended our 20 week anomaly scan 3 days ago to be told our baby has club foot.  The very second the sonographer said it, I felt my heart break.  I didn't really even understand what it meant…See More
