Talipes Together | Club Foot Support Network
Hi there
We are the Beagan family and our little boy, Micheal(irish version) born last jan 2011 was born with unilateral right sided club foot. We are undergoing the ponsetti technique and currently maintaining with brace at nap and night time.
While we have always been so happy with the service that we recieve I do have nagging concerns about his little foot that the reg/sho (he never introduced himself) we saw at our last appointment did nothing to alleviate my concerns accept dismiss them, so here I am looking to be reassured????
I am just wondering does anyone else notice that the effected foot externally rotates when rested eg, lying in bed with no boots, in the car seat, when wobbling around or crawling? Also of late I have noticed the outer aspect of his foot dropping?
We will attend the OT dept for new shoes soon but the girl we usually deal with is on maternity leave.
If anyone else has or has had these concerns I'd love to hear from them.

Baby's feet usually still turn in a bit when in a relaxed state. Louis' still does and he is over 2. It is usually not anything to be concerned about. It is the flexibility that is the key. As long as he is soft and flexible (you can bend the foot up and down) he should be ok. Basically if they relapse the foot stiffens up and once stiff it turns inwards and upwards. So bendy and flexible feet (even if it curls when relaxed) = good! Stiff and tight = bad. What hospital do you attend? Temple St? They do tend to be good at catching a relapse. My husband always says, after I come home after another visit to the hospital where the consultant does not introduce themselfs and barely look at me or Louis, that we should count ourselfs lucky, as if there had been a problem, a relapse, the more senior guy would be called and there would be a lot of attention. So I think you should be ok. But it is always better to ask one too many times than not. And mothers instincts can be reliable too.... If my response does not settle nerves then ask for another appointment!
Please let us know how you get on!
Best of luck,
Mia
